John Kamau Wainaina is the Founder and CEO of Youth League UK, a multi-award-winning organization dedicated to supporting young people in the United Kingdom. John graduated in Economics from Kenyatta University.
Youth League UK was founded 25 years ago when John, a sports enthusiast, wanted to apply his sporting and entertainment interests to engage his peers in positive activities. John identified a significant gap in support for youths, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds in London. Initially, youth League UK focused on supporting Kenyan youths. However, it has since evolved and expanded its reach, now predominantly supporting black youths of African origin.
While Youth League uses sports and entertainment to attract young people, it provides holistic and culturally sensitive support for youth, including, but not limited to, mentoring, leadership, volunteering education and employability support.
John and his team have received accolades from various authorities in the United Kingdom, and their work has been described as truly inspiring. The team is collaborating with West Ham United Foundation to engage youth in sports and positive activities, which will help reduce youth unemployment and violence in East London.
