#AFBS2026
African football stands at a decisive moment.
In 1966, African nations took a bold and historic stand. Led by Ghana's first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the continent collectively boycotted the FIFA World Cup after being denied fair representation in the tournament. The boycott forced a reckoning within global football governance and led to Africa's first guaranteed World Cup slot, beginning in 1970.
That moment was more than a dispute over tournament access. It was a declaration of dignity, solidarity, and continental ambition.
Sixty years later, Africa faces another inflexion point. The continent produces some of the most celebrated football talent in the world, yet the economic architecture of the game remains largely externalised. Africa captures only a fraction of the value generated by its own talent, passion, and markets.
If the struggle of 1966 was about representation, the challenge of 2026 is about value creation, governance, and sustainability.
The Africa Football Business Summit exists because football's biggest opportunity on the continent isn't on the pitch, it's in the boardroom. For four editions now, AFBS has brought together governments, federations, clubs, investors, and innovators to ask a harder question than who wins: who actually captures the value the game creates. AFBS 2026 continues that work in Accra, at a moment when the answer matters more than ever.
